Sassy Faux Metal Card

It's Thursday which means I am a day late for my weekly Sassy Challenge! Sorry! I have had the week from Hell at work and my stamping mojo disappeared.


This card has actually been sitting on my table partially completed for several days. It wasn't until today that I had the energy and mental capacity to finish it.





This week's challenge with my FAB and Sassy friends was to create a card using a faux technique in honor of April Fool's Day which is coming up soon. I was going to use Faux stitching but I realized with the dog theme of this card that Faux Metal would be really cute.

The card is a 5.25" by 5.25" square. I don't normally do square cards but I originally wanted to try the Hanna Sketch Challenge from last week. When that didn't work out I thought I would I would do the Sketch from the challenge from My Favorite Things. As you can see, other than a square card and the dog image being in a circle, it is nothing like those sketches. I told you I was having a bad week! LOL!

The stamped images are from Hanna Stamps. I recently received my order with the My Best Friend and the Large Breed Stamp sets and could not wait to use them. The Faux Metal charm is the collar from the My Best Friend set. I used Silver Embossing Powder and the tutorial on SCS to achieve the look of a metal embellishment. I only had a tiny little piece of silver thread so I had to use hemp twine to attach it to the ribbon.

Anyway- this card didn't turn out exactly as I had first, or second or probably even third evisioned it. (LOL!) But it is done and I think I like it. Thanks for looking!!

Sassy Easter Card!

It's Wednesday and it is time for my Sassy Challenge again. This week we had to make an Easter-themed card since Easter is less than a week away. Time sure does fly, doesn't it?

I don't own a lot of Easter stamps but I did have this cute chicky and egg I found at the dollar bin at Michael's. I stamped the Chick on my white panel and then colored him with my SU markers. (I used Barely Banana and Pumpkin Pie). Then I stamped the egg which was one piece onto a separate piece of white cs and colored it with my markers. Then I took my jagged edge scissors and cut it across. I used my Quickie glue pen and dazzling diamonds to glitter the "cracked" edges of the egg and then popped the egg up with dimensionals to make it look like the chick just hatched. The sentiment on the front is from SU All Year Cheer I and inside I also used Happy Easter from that same set.

Ink: Black Stazon; SU Markers: Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Pretty In Pink, Barely Banana and Pumpkin Pie (on chick only)

My First Card with my New Catty Goodies!

Woo hoo! My SU order came in last week but I have not had time to ink my new rubber up. But finally, between work and housework and all my social obligations (yes, I actually went out of the house for social reasons- don't act so shocked!!) I made a card with my new goodies.

This card is for this week's Sketch Challenge #165. I chose my new Set Pretty Amazing and my new DSP Bali Breeze. I inked the branch and flowers with my SU markers (I used Rose Red since SU does not have a Purely Pomegranite marker) and stamped it on a small white panel. Then I stamped "Amazing" on a panel of Bali Breeze DSP. The humming bird was stamped on Purely Pomegranite CS and cut out- it is attached with a dimensional. The flower in the center was stamped twice- once with Purely Pomegranite ink on PP CS then again in Old Olive ink on OO CS. Then I cut the large outline out in the Pomegranite and the smaller one in Old Olive. They are layered together with a brad and popped up on dimensionals. I finished the card off with my new favorite ribbon- the 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain. It is just yummy!

Sassy Challenge: SU Catty Case

It's Wednesday again (already?) and that means my weekly Sassy challenge needs to be completed. This week's challenge was to CASE a card from the 2008 Srping-Summer Stampin' Up Catalog.

For this challenge I chose the Be Happy Stamp set and the card on Page 48. Although I just received my SU order of brand new goodies- I liked this card the best and I don't use this set enough (or ever for that matter). The changes I made are the colors, DSP, and the ribbon. I kept the layout and used the same stamps and punches. My card has faux-stitching instead of real stitching. I am not sure if the catty card is real or faux but I can assure you I am no seamstress!

Sassy Challenge: Non-floral Sympathy Card

Whew! Thank goodness for Wednesdays! If it weren't for my weekly challenge with my Sassy Friends I might not make time to stamp! Shame on me!

Work has been pretty decent this week but I burned the candle on both ends (I had a lot to get done!) on my last two days off so I went into my four days already tired. It only got worse while I was working which did not help my stamping mojo.

I went to a Shoebox Swap on Friday and made a very simple card. I like to do more complicated cards but sometimes simple is better- like when you have 14 cards to make in just a couple of hours! LOL! Here is my creation :

The technique used is Faux Tearing and it is really easy! You just mask part of the card with a torn piece of paper (I have made a template with a manila folder) and use a wheel or background stamp then slide the mask and sponge. It really looks great when you use a background stamp but I could only use current SU products for this swap and I did not have a current background stamp.

I finally stamped again today - it is Wednesday afterall and I had to make a Sympathy card without using any flowers. Not too hard, right? LOL! Actually, it wasn't hard but I don't have a Sympathy stamp so I had to substitute "From the Heart". It could work for a Sympathy card, I think. I combined this challenge with Sketch Challenge 164 on SplitCoast. I love those challenges because I always need ideas for layouts. Do you think I can come up with this stuff on my own? Well, sometimes- but most of the time....no.

The bird and sentiment were stamped with Timber Brown Stazon. Then I colored the image with my SU markers on water color paper and blended with an Aquapainter. The jury (IMO) is still out on how the image turned out- I am not sure I like the water lines.....but it is a hazard of water-coloring, I guess. At least for me.

I stamped today!! Woo hoo!

Today is Wednesday (it IS Wednesday, isn't it??) so it is time for the challenge with my Sassy friends. This week's challenge was to make Anything But A Card. I decided to make some Valentine's Day treats for this challenge. I made them for my son and three of my co-workers. (My boss is not nice so he isn't getting one...ha ha....). The pink treats with the cupcakes are for the girls and the Grey/Black ones are for the boys. I used stickles on the cupcake to accent the cherry on top but left the cow plain because boys don't like glitter as much as girls. ;) Anyway- this is what I did this morning- I have to get ready for work now. Romancing the Rubber! :)

My Rubber Romance Stamps came in this afternoon and I could not wait to play! I ordered them on Friday and they arrived on Monday! It was super-fast shipping that only cost $2 for my whole order! I will definitely be ordering from this site again!!

I had use these two stamps right away. I love this martini girl- she's so elegant. And the sentiment is all about me- REALLY!! I think this card would make a neat Valentine for someone who's guy had a sense of humor. You could put in the inside, "Just Kidding...sort of. Love ya, Baby!" Wouldn't that be cute- but only if your guy could take a joke.

I stamped the image with Black Staz On onto Water Color paper. (I used Strathmore 140 lb Cold pressed- I do not like it and will not buy it again) I then colored in the image with my SU markers. Her hair is Close to Cocoa and accented with Chocolate Chip. The shirt and lips are Regal Rose and I used Blush Blossom for the skin. The earrings are accented with silver stickles. I finished off the card with black satin ribbon, ticket corner punch and celery brads (SU). The base of the card is Black with a Regal Rose panel that I ran through the Cuttlebug.

No Stampin' Today- but stay tuned!!

I didn't get any stamping done today. But don't worry- there are some projects coming up this week that I will be working on. I spent the afternoon (after work of course) paying bills. What is so exciting about that, you ask? Well, I have been poor for quite some time and I finally got caught up on everything and I am getting ready to place an rather large SU order. Yay! I am nervous and excited all at the same time. But there will be so many goodies when it arrives that my head will totally spin. I will be in stamping heaven. I also ordered some stamps from Rubber Romance. I can't wait for those to come in too! It is a treat I have waited a long time for- and probably won't experience again for awhile- so I plan on enjoying it to the fullest!!

Stay tuned this week for my project(s). I will be designing a card for a Shoe Box Swap on Friday. It has to be all current Stampin' Up materials. I hope I can do it. I love SU- but I rarely make a card thatis entirely SU, KWIM?? Also, I am almost finished with my homemade ink pad holder. I will post pictures as soon as it is finished. Also, if I get a chance I need to start on my Easter swap card and then there's Valentine's Day cards and treats. Yes, I know V-Day is this week! I'll get them done. ;)

So as you can see I have lots of stamping excitement coming up which will hopefully make up for the rough times at work. That's right- work is not better- it seems to get worse everyday. BUT it pays the bills (somewhat) so until I find something better that's where I stay. At least I have my stamping heaven (SCS) to check out once in a while! Thanks for checking in!

Sassy Valentine!

This week's challenge with my Sassy Friends was to make a Valentine's Day card WITHOUT using hearts! Well, here's what I came up with. I found this really cute DCWV Paper at Michael's and knew it was purrfect! :) The paper actually is called Sassy Fun! The cat and sentiment are from the $1 bin at Micahel's. There's a flower that goes with it but I lost it - so I layered two primas instead. I think it actually looks better. I paper-pierced the inner scallop circle and used my white gel pen on the outer one. I finished off the card with Aged Copper Brads and Pretty In Pink Ribbon.

This card is going in the mail to my Friend Kimme!

Help! Work is driving me NUTS!!!

I had a REALLY bad day at work and even though I was exhausted I knew I needed to do something to relieve stress and pick myself back up. I received my order from Hanna Stamps in the mail today including Things Hanna Would Say and the Heidi Swapp brads in pink and brown. That definitely started the cheering up process so I decided to use them to make a card. I don't know why but this sentiment is my favorite- I have a lot of ideas for it in the future. ;)

I colored the puddle with a blender pen and ink pad and the rest of the image was colored with markers. The umbrella was paper-pieced with Groovy Guava Prints DP, the edges were sponged with soft Sky, and I paper-pierced the corner. I used my cuttlebug on the chocolate chip cs and finished it off with ribbon and two brown brads.

Boy, I feel better already! TFL!!
